TSMC Adopts Two-Pronged Approach to Build a New Base for Water Resources Learning
Promoting Environmental Education through Two Main Pillars, with over 6,800 Participants
TSMC is committed to sustainable water resource management, effectively enhancing water recycling efficiency through its four key water-saving measures. At the same time, the Company actively invests in the development of recycled water technology, establishing the TSMC Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) Reclaimed Water Plant to diversify water sources, and has designated "Water Positive" status as a long-term strategic goal. To deepen both internal and external understanding of sustainable water resource management, TSMC focuses on two main educational promotion themes: "Fab Water Management Actions" and "Reclaimed Water Plant Exploration Journey." Through a variety of courses and guided tours, the Company raises the awareness of employees and the public and encourages them to support water resource protection. As of April 2026, the cumulative number of participants has exceeded 6,800. Furthermore, TSMC collaborated with the TSMC Charity Foundation to host the first-ever Reclaimed Water Plant Family Camp, where parents and children collectively explored the operation of the reclaimed water plant firsthand, adding new energy to the promotion of sustainable development.
TSMC adopts a dual-track strategy to promote water resources environmental education, aiming to enhance employees' water management knowledge and disseminate reclaimed water expertise to the public. Among these efforts, the TSMC Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) Reclaimed Water Plant Environmental Education Learning Park received certification as an Environmental Education Facility from the Ministry of Environment in December 2023. It offers "Urban Mini Reservoir" courses for middle elementary school students, "The Rejuvenation of Reclaimed Water" courses for upper elementary school students, and "The Art and Magic of Reclaimed Water" workshop for adults. These programs are available for reservation by schools, organizations, and other groups. In addition, TSMC actively hosts visiting delegations from government agencies, academic institutions, and educational groups from countries such as Thailand, the United States, and Japan. Through these exchanges, TSMC shares its practical experience and achievements in semiconductor industry water resource management, fostering a shared vision for water sustainability.
"The highest good is like water" finds its contemporary embodiment at the TSMC Southern Taiwan Science Park Reclaimed Water Plant Environmental Education Learning Park. This isn't merely a factory; it's a sanctuary for environmental education, where one can witness industrial wastewater transformed into reclaimed water and appreciate the sustainable wisdom of technology coexisting with nature. We recommend a half-day learning experience to personally feel the modern virtue of water that "benefits all things.
Through the process of parent-child dialogue and co-learning, children not only acquire knowledge but also learn to understand the environment and cherish resources. When sustainability becomes a common language within the family, water resource education extends beyond a single lesson, transforming into a value that can be discussed and passed down throughout daily life.
I previously attended a family day event at my dad's company, but this was my first time gaining such a special understanding of water resources. My sister and I both learned a lot, and we hope we can participate in activities like this again in the future. Many thanks to the big brothers and big sisters from the Reclaimed Water Plant!
Based on the principle of prospering with the environment, TSMC continues to improve its water treatment technologies. This includes integrating recycled water into advanced manufacturing processes, enhancing ammonia-nitrogen wastewater treatment, optimizing process circulation, and implementing fully automated monitoring mechanisms. TSMC continues to strengthen its environmental education efforts. Students can book and browse courses at the TSMC Southern Taiwan Science Park Reclaimed Water Plant Environmental Education Learning Park through its dedicated website. The Company hopes that by sharing knowledge and exchanging resources, it can promote a positive cycle within the semiconductor industry and fulfill the long-term commitments of its "Water Statement."
